Jkay & others who have ripped off lower door molding...
As has been documented by others, when the molding is torn off, the metal screw securing it rips through its metal holding enlarging the hole.
Does inserting a larger screw solve the problem, or does it take more work?

Ah. Well. What I did was ...
... I re-assembled everything carefully, and noted that simple re-assembly made everything lay properly, and I made a mental note to buy a larger screw to fix it permanently but I have never gotten around to it.
ps - my wife ripped off the molding, not me >8)

Ha! Yes I remember reading your earlier post, and the only way I found it again was by searching "wife molding". My girlfriend did it to mine as well...
