Default Lights out icon & Purndy

2 issues:

On the way home tonight, accelerating onto the highway, I got the following
(minus the coolant light):

<img src="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/pix/triplight_coolant.jpg">

It meant there's a problem with the head or tail light(s).

After about an hour, I go back out, start the car, turn on the lights. Nothing out, and the icon's gone. However, I notice the tranny is now in purndy. Just like last time I got it.

1. One hour drive home. Outside temp about 30° - 35°

2. Wait an hour, start car. PuRNDy.

wierd.

Light bulbs can fail intermittently. One of my taillights did. Closing the trunk would be enough to turn it on or off.

Have you retrieved the trouble codes from the transmission? Sorry if you posted them and I missed it.

Default Fix the throttle position sensor?

If all the PRND432 segments are lit up, the TCM is still active, i.e. it has power and hasn't crashed. So we can presume it's capable of logging whatever code caused it to go into emergency running mode. And the transmission trouble code is

18264 - Throttle Potentiometer (G69): Error Message from ECU.

Seems a bit drastic for the transmission controller to go into limp-home mode just because the ECM reports that the throttle signal is bogus, but on the evidence of the codes you've supplied, that appears to be what's happening.

The ECM also complains about the same thing, you'll note. So that sensor or its connector or wiring is probably flakey. Time for some electrical troubleshooting around the throttle position sensor, or maybe just bathing it in Mobil 1 ATF. It's synthetic, you know :-).

Wouldn't hurt to fix the other engine trouble code either. The engine speed sensor could be on its way out, and it may matter for accurate ignition timing. There are probably tests in the service manual to do before just replacing the part.

Default Is it really in limp mode or just the light?

I don't think, that low fluid level would give you limp mode. It would be noisy or not drivable at all.

Low fluid can cause 17114 "incorrect gear ratio" by making the transmission slip. No reports of low fluid leading to throttle position sensor errors detected by the ECM though, so if that does turn out to be the case it will be worth reporting.

Default Engine speed sensor can cause limp mode. Check out this.
