Default Looking to buy an A8 4.2Q. How much did you pay over invoice? (more)

I'm looking to buy an A8 (I have an a4 1.8T QMS - with chips/springs/wheels and its a great fun car - but I'm looking for something bigger.
I want to be prepared to pay the dealer game. Can you tell me how much you paid over/under invoice on the A8. I've seen many postings about this in the A4 forum, and I paid $1,300 (3%) over invoice for my 98.5 at Vasek Polak in Hermosa Beach last year.
Anyway, and information would be great,
Thanks,
Antony

Default $6.5k incentive

Be sure to take into account the $6.5k dealer incentive that Audi is currently offering to clear out the '99 models. You should get the entire incentive after negotiating a % above invoice.

The incentive is what did it for me. I bought my loaded A8 (sticker $68K) for $54,700!!! My understanding is the incentives on the 99's ended 7/31. It was an "offer" I couldn't refuse.

Default Sure beat the Mercedes E320 4matic Price

I was looking at a Mercedes E320 4matic or a Jaguar S-type (V8) before I bought the A8. With the Audi incentive, the take-home price was the lowest for the A8. I am sure glad I stopped by the Audi Dealer on the way to second-drive JAG. The A8 (obvious) blows these other cars away in every measure. The biggest problem with the other brand-dealers is the arrogance!! The Mercedes dealer seems to think that their cars don't deserve any discount (forget the Edmund's prices - these guys don't discount on a hot-MERC). The Jaguar dealer couldn't get past their new car look - can't discount the "Mona Lisa".

If you want value (and the trade/resale on the 97 A4 proved it), stick with Audi.

Manny
Was this the A8Q or the other one? I am haggling with Beverly Hills Porsche Audi right now and they are trying to snow me on my monthly payments so I would love to know.
Thanks

I bought the 4.2Q. I understand that the 3.7 is being phased out. Mine had all options except for the summer package. The 17" wheels seem to be a must have option.

Default $7,500 Dealer incentive

Audi has upped their incentive on '99 A8 to $7,500 from $6,500. You should negotiate a price that is 2-5% over invoice, then subtract the $7,500. Should make for an AWESOME deal. The incentive is from the factory so it is no $ out of the dealer pocket. If they try to use the incentive to negotiate down from retail, they're trying to steal a portion of YOUR factory to customer money!

Edmunds (see other post above) lists the incentive for BOTH A8 models, not just the 3.7.

If only they'd make the A8 in a 6 speed, I'd give up my S4 aspirations in a heartbeat with this kind of a deal.

FWIW -- If the cash is really important to you, then you're like me, stretching to afford an awesome car. Check out insurance costs on the A8. Because of the all-aluminum construction, rates are significantly higher than comparable BMW etc. Seems that reconstructing aluminum body panels, etc. after collision is very expensive.

OTOH -- If you're an internet start up company owner, you may not care. ;-)
