Maintenance on 98 A8
#11
We have had all kinds of shady deals tried at the dealer. I have heard many tales from my
customers.
Such as going to the sellor's "work-place" to view the car and conduct the sale. Some large office building... Turns out the title is forged and of course the money gone. No such person works at the establishment. Cars with leins still attached and various methods used to bypass that detail so that the sale can be conducted. When the loan defaults, the game is up and the new owner kisses the car goodbye.
We've had trade-ins with 79K on the clock and never had an oil change - just oil added. Infiniti J30 - gorgeous outside. Original factory filter that had to be cut off. Element washed out and came as sludge in the oilpan. Sold the car at an auction. Bet the final owner will never know. That was not the only one by a long shot.
Bottom ends shot, with oil so thick it's like butterscotch. Owners hoping you won't hear the knock. Trannies too - so you can't hear the whine. Crazy glue to hold a dash togather - of course crazy glue does not last long in that environment. Airbags removed. Etc.
These are things that the public tries to pull at a dealer - a VW/Audi dealer, not Kia. Does the public think the dealer is just going to eat it ? Why would a private seller behave any better when selling privately ?

Worth it...
I bought a 97 A8 about 2 years ago.. 49,000 miles. No tiptronic.. no big deal.
This car has been rock solid, with maintenance at Carousel (Minneapolis)being excellent. It's got 73,000 miles on it now, and covered under the Audi Assured program. The only major repairs have been a CV Joint and a fuel injector that was plugged.
Test drove an S8... and will wait another 3 years to buy one that's got 30-40,000 miles, instead of my "dream car", a Porsche 911!
