MMI Problem
Anyway, after I shut the car off and restarted, it worked.
Consider the MMI like you would any computer. It is smart, but occasionally forgetful. I've learned that I can fix things with a quick reboot, by hitting three keys (see your MMI manual for the sequence). An added benefit is that you'll get to see the VERY neat MMI intro screen, which is usually hidden in day-to-day use. Rebooting the MMI is just like hitting the ctrl-alt-delete combo on a PC. (Of course I don't do that at all since I use a Mac.) ;-)
Sorry for the ?'s, I'm an ocean away from my car and manuals.
And what processor does it have?
On my computer, ctrl-alt-delete just brings up the Windows Security screen. The three finger salute hasn't forced a reset since, What? Win 3.11? DOS 5.0?
You need to update your PC. ;-)
BTW, I find that PrintScrn won't capture that dialog box, I had to Google Image Search an example. I wonder how the folks at that site grabbed the image.
Heh - just razzing you.
I'd not suggest trying to do multiple button presses on the console while driving. Pull over to the side of the road and do it. (or wait for the Parktronic to signal that upcoming bridge abutment !!)
I've found some interesting "quirks" that affect the MMI. Maybe I'll start a topic so we can share our "experiences".

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I live in an area of Northern New Jersey that has been fully built up for decades, and sometimes even major roads are not labelled, even major intersections.
I think that it has alot to do with screen "redraws" on the MMI display. If the computer needed to label every road, a "moving" display might be very time consuming for the screen. I've also noticed that the map display seems to give more information if I am in an area where I am receiving the full amount of satellites. I don't know if anyone has experienced this.
Actually there are times when there are so few labelled roads (at any magnification) that I thought that my Nav was not working well, or had a bad antenna connection. The roads always show up, and are correct in their layout, but they are not usually labelled. My dealer checked the system and said it was OK. I trust that they know what they are doing. ;-)
The best way to check it would be to have a comparison with another A8L in the same spot, at the same Nav magnification. I am in Bergen County, New Jersey. Any takers???
