This area is built onto the side of the mountain and is called the Otira Viaduct.

Canopy to protect cars from land slides
This was done to stop erosion and the canopy was built purely yo send the shingle slides over the top to miss takind out the road and cars travelling it.

I would not agree
I lived in Colorado when I got my A8 and driving in the mountains was less than exciting! Once you hit about 8000ft altitude density (can be at 5000ft on a hot day) you can only make 75% of your power with a NA engine. 225hp A8 is not that impressive! My old 2.2L 210hp (chiped) 5000tq was way more fun in the mountains! (210 hp any altitude) Nothing like passing 10 cars running up Loveland pass on US6 over the contential divide, and then getting brake fade at 100mph on the way down! Yee Haa, now thats mountain driving! An S8 would be fun in the mountains for sure!
