Default Typically we use an inverter...

At most stores that carry electronics gear (at least on the American side of the ocean) you can purchase a power inverter which converts from 12VDC to 120VAC. I assume someone makes something similar in europe. Even if they don't, you can get a US one and swap the power supply in your PC to be 120VAC.

Also, if you're using a laptop, some manufacturers (I know Apple does) has a 12VDC->Laptop power supply where you can skip the inverter.

Something about doing this when we wardrive, but since wardriving isn't quite a legal activity, I don't think I've ever been wardriving and I don't know a thing about it...

Default special setup for that so it boots when the car starts.

If you do this with a laptop, then your a little better off. All ya need is an inverter. Otherwise the power supply can be a real trip on the battery. Special setup will have boot timers etc. Check around should be able to find some more info from the s4/a4 forum (a few people did car computers there)

Default With a laptop...

You can set it up so that when the laptop notices the external power is off, it goes to sleep, and then re-awakes when the external power is on.

Default you need an opus power supply

It will allow you to have the computer to run on 12volts... also it will turn the computer on and off with a 12 volt sense wire that will hit the power button when the car starts and it will shut down when the car is off..

Check out mp3car.com and check out the power supplies forum
