New poster to the forum, wanted to say hello
Hi Everyone, I've just taken posession of a 2001 S8. As you can imagine I just love this car!!!
I come by way of S2Ki.com, as my true love is my S2000. I have spent a lot of time reading this site, learning as much as I can about these cars. The info in here is great.. Thank you.
I can't deny that reading about problem after problem had/has me a little worried about the future ownership of this car, but driving it makes me forget pretty easily.
So far, my lumber doesn't work on the drivers seat, there is no pressure in my windshield washers, and an occasional clunk when I open the sunroof.
My name is Mike, I look forward to being more then just a lurker from now on.

Welcome to the forum. ...
We're always looking for another problem solver, and you've got three problems that I've never seen before.
BTW: Are you a member of the Audi Car Club? We're always looking for another S8 at their track events. Shucks ... if you join ACC, you could even drive the S2000; there's always a few BMW's and Porsche's.

Hello Mike and welcome to the "ups and downs"
of German car ownership! During the 70`s I had a number of BMW`s and the saying was "When its running, its running great"! Its not THAT bad anymore but certainly Audis, Bimmers and Benz`s have their own personalities. For the past 20 years or so, Ive been used to cars that have been relatively trouble free and while my 04 IS trouble free I wasnt sure what to expect after following this forum since June. I wouldnt trade my "apprehension" for the world! I love this car and I am willing to take those occaisional downs if they do occur. May your "bumps" be small and your road smooth!

Thanks guys, I have approx 22k miles on the car, so I still have lots of warranty left!
Mitaka, I'd be interested to see your fix for the lumbar though, I'm curious as to what went wrong.
I'm not a member of ACC, but I will be, Which tracks do you run? I track my S2000 alot, Mosport, Shannonville, the Glen..
Being from Toronto, there are only a handful that I can get to with in a day.

So far: Mid-Ohio, Grattan, and Road America
I live south of Pittsburgh and for me, it's 4 hr to Mid-Ohio, 8 hr to Grattan, and 12 hr to Road America. You're probably only a 5 hr drive from Grattan, maybe 7 hr from Mid-Ohio, and 14 hr from Road America.
Grattan is a blast. It's not one of the great tracks of N. America, but maybe the most fun.
Mid-Ohio <b>is</b> one of the great N.A. tracks and the most technical. Since precision and momentum are rewarded here, you might want to think about bringing the S2000 :-)
Road America is almost in a class by itself. This four mile road course has three very long straights where the A8/S8 can really stretch it's legs. It's worth a 12-14 hr drive.
This was the <A HREF="http://www.quattroclubusa.org/event/calendar.shtml">'03 ACC Schedule</a>, I expect '04 will be similar; and I assume you've seen the audipages <A HREF="http://www.audipages.com/on_track.html">'On Track'</a>. Hope to see you in '04.

Welcome
I'm kinda new to the forum also, bought an 02 S8 about six weeks ago...
My driver's side lumber doesn't work either. It will pump up, then quickly release the pressure. I'll ask them to fix it when I take it in for my 10k service in about a month. I'll keep you posted.
