Default Another way to test.. NAPA makes a "Block test kit" about $60. If there is CO2 in the coolant

which there would be if the head gasket was blown, the liquid chemical changes color. It will sense the slightest bit and is very accurate.

Default Has the valve cover seals ever been changed in the cars lifetime?

I had a similar leak and I changed the seals using Paul's procedure on audipages. Problem solved.

Default Update...the leak is below the manifold, but the coolant is fine.

Default Go to the car wash and power wash it

I would just clean spray the engine cleaner foam in their first, then hit it with water.....it will clean everything up.

Then monitor it....I wouldn't worry about that.

Default Agree. The oil could also be coming from a front cam seal as well from the looks of the photos.

Doesn't look too serious at the moment, but I'd keep an eye on it. Also, you can have an external oil leak from a head gasket without finding water in the oil or vice versa. There are four main types of head gasket failures:
1. Oil to outside engine
2. Water into oil
3. Oil into water
4. Combustion products into water

So just because you don't have water in the antifreeze doesn't necessarily mean the gasket is good.

But ... didnt they fail to sync your cams to the crank, and bend every valve and trash your pistons?

Default Mine is doing the same thing-in the same spots

Not too much buildup. Had dealer put in Mobil 5W30 in October oil change. If it did it before I didn't notice. Bought car in September so don't know what oil was in it before. Did a timing belt change at same service.
