Overheating problem - possible solution

Default Overheating problem - possible solution

Would adding a pusher fan in front of the radiator be advieable to solve this overheatingat idleing problem?

Default There are some concerns..

IF you were to add a pusher fan you would need to make sure you relocate the power steering cooling rod. Also you need to make sure you properly align the fan with one of the others. Since the Belt fan if approx 15 inches you would need to match the size and position to eliminate destructive interference.

Secondly, we still dont know why you are over heating. How much cooler does it run while you are driving 40? If it dosent help then there is no fan or air movement that will help you.

When was the thermostat last changed? How about the water pump?

Default the guage can go...

all teh way to 120degC if driven slowly for a extended period of time wiht the A/c on.

My mechanic says that it might be due to the elec. fan not spining at the max speed adn should be replaced. i dont know if it will mak ethat much of a difference

what do you think?

right now the fan sometimes does not engage by itself and needs to be wound once to get it going...

Default when the car is in motion...

its runs cool... even at 40degC usually at the normal temp of 90degC. the problem occurs when the car is stuck in traffic or idleing...

Everything ive read about this sort of problem points to the Fan...fan clutch...and now that it has been replaced... confused

You have also confirmed that it does not go on sometimes because you get the high pressure cutout code via vag-com.

It has three speeds. If the HVAC is in AUTO, then the low speed is always on, it turns the fan off when in ECON and less than about 95C.

When you get above about 95C in AUTO, it switches to the 2nd speed, then if the needle goes up to 120C, it would be in the third speed.

I would be looking at the fan, and considering replacement if it has not been replaced previously.

Default Bvarghese, I have the same problem...found the solution

In a previous post, I have mentioned that I took my Audi S8 (1998) to my mechanic with the same problem and he suggested that I pressure clean the radiator because it has carbon deposits (???). After doing so, I can sit in traffic for two or three hours without any issues. Do the same and hopefully your problem will be solved.
