Default paging Jim's 03-S8... how'd you ever make out wtih your GLWC claim for cam chain tensioners? I've...

...got a very audible clatter coming from the nose of my engine that appears to have worsened. I'm starting to become concerned - it goes in for GLWC claim on front control arms next week anyway so hoping to have them solve "this" while it's in there - and hoping it's what you reported and that it's COVERED.

Last you reported they had diagnosed yours as cam chain tensioners failing and that GLWC was covering. Did they? Did it remedy?

Any insight appreciated. Wish me luck - I gave it an ear last night and it's starting to sound worriesome - I get that *exact picture* Ricoblanco just posted below going through my head anytime I think of motor issues with this thing!

PollockPollan... pls stuntdouble for Jim if you don't believe he's trolling here - dankabish!

Default Not covered. $1K+ out of pocket and honestly...

I'm f'ing with you. It was covered and I think for a "few" dollars more Jim had the TB and water pump done while Patrick was in there. I never noticed his motor being that loud on startup and certainly do not hear a difference after the tensioners were replaced. An "inspector" from GL did have to come out and approve the repair. Between parts and labor it was somewhere close to $2K.

Polock out.

Default 'preciate that bish. Wonde WTF I got going on up there. It's VERY audible clacket clackety, but...

...does NOT change in frequency, pitch, volume, nothing, with rev's. I just hear it at idle, and shutoff.

Guess I'll find out soon enough - will report back.

Does it sound like valve clatter? Wifey's '03 makes such noise upon startup.

there's a TSB somewhere stating that this is "normal". My wife's car does it if it sits for 2+ days

Oh yes, verymuchso - however - *it's not just @ startup*, and it's def. from front of motor. Tx tho.

Interesting "build pressure as fast as possible". The reason for the rev spike at startup?

Default Yesh, I haven't made it out here as often as I'd like lately... but yes the

Great Lakes warranty did cover the replacement of both cam tensioner pulleys at a cost to them of about 2500... Saved me a few hundred on the timing belt procedure to boot, so I guess I can't complain too much about them not covering the two cracked upper control arms that they said went bad because of the bushings... and the bushings are not covered. Good luck with your claim next week... and thanks to Mark for stunt doublin'...

Default Wait a second - control arm bushings are totally covered - my guess is...

...they get the warm fuzzies from being able to "NO!" something when presented with a huge claim such as the cam pulley thang.

I'm near 100% positive, as during my first round of claims I did definitely have an upper inner rear control arm bushing replaced and covered.

Now, Pollock seems to think the cam pulley issue being resolved didn't really silence anything. Did you have noise prior? Describe? Thanks!

Tx for the feedback and wishes of good luck. Goes in Monday hopefully. Going to NYC to catch Buffett @ MSG tomorrsky, kinda dreading the long journey in it but no way 930ing it - fingers crossed.
