Default Painted hood on '03 S8 in Boston/Allston - Should I be concerned?

I am close to buying this car (a black '03 S8 with 33k miles), and would fly out Friday. Thursday (before I travel a 1000 mi) I am having it inspected by a local Audi Dealer (Audi of Brookline).

My concern is that after i asked to hae the car inspected, the dealer mentioned that the hood had been painted.

I figure that it can be a stone or a big scratch, but now I am concerned: Is this a big deal? Your advice would be appreciated!

- Is there a VIN on the hood to make sure it matches? If so can I assume that the hood (aluminum) was not bent or damaged in any major way?

Anyone feels like checking the car out for me?

H

Default If it was a good job, I wouldn't be concerned

If it's not a great job, it might haze over in 4-5 years, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

Default Leverage it in your final price negotiations, and check inside the engine bay for straight lines.

Any damage will most likely be noticed. Also, check the body fasteners to see if other pieces have been replaced. I had a bunch of hail damage to my S8 and the paintless repair shop in town popped them all out. If the quality of the repair is at all noticeable, you should be able to drive a hard bargain. Good luck!

Default carfax and approx.location?

Most dealers in Allston are not impressive outfits IMO. They run a parking lot of cars, and have offices that often look like they are out of a trailer park.

At Brookline Audi, request that "Demi" is the one who does the inspection. He is the most senior tech, and very knowledgeable on the A8s.

My A8 is running fine at the moment, so my search for a replacement below $25k can reassure you that I will not snipe you on your deal. EMail me if you want someone local to get an unbiased look at the car, even while it is at brookline getting the PPI
