Parting out 2001 A8L
Curious how to go about selling parts? I've never considered parting out the car. Does shipping cost more than the parts?
How to advertise the parts?

What happened to your car that you're thinking of parting it out? I know these cars can get pricey and some parts get hard to find. If you are parting it out, I'm in need of both the tranny oil cooler lines, mine have started seeping. Part #s are 4D0 317 825K for the supply line and 4D0 317 826K for the return. If yours are dry, let's talk about my buying them. Thanks and have a good night. Feel free to ring / text my cell - 703-283-6100. Cheers, John

Sorry, I Was away and didn't see these replies.
First thing, I am considering parting out the car vs. repairing it. 2 years ago, it was initially diagnosed as having timing belt/chains jumped and several valves "kissed" pistons. 2nd opinion says might not have hit pistons, but chain tensioner broke on drivers side bank and who knows what happened. It has 195,000 miles, we bought it in 2005 when it came off lease at 45,000. Estimated repair cost is $2,000 if just simple timing belt and tensioners. On up to $4-$5k if needs heads redone. It runs and actually just seems like coil pack is out.
So, it has sat in my garage for 2 years! I have been offered $150 from local junk yard that says it doesn't want it except for the tires. Nobody seems to want it at local European repair places. So, I'm am curious of parting it out.
That said, I am not a mechanic and I have no clue how I would remove parts etc. So, not really sure how a nerd like me can part out a car if I can't remove the parts.
I am in Rochester, MN.
My #1 plan is to pull off and sell the 2 fog lamp grilles (That I have replaced 2 times until I learned to zip tie them on) Then take the $150 and junk it.
But way too many good parts on here. For instance, about 1 year on fuel pump. I think 2 newer calipers, etc...

You can offer it up on Craigslist as a tow-away and probably get at lest $500 for it. Engines are $500, or if your trans is good there ought to be a way for someone to combine cars and make the best of it.
Otherwise yes sell the fog light grills, sell the armrest, floor mats, electrochromatic mirrors (if they work) etc. There are other things you could sell. Tools? First Aid Kit? Warning triangle? Manual and folio? Dome light and sunroof control? Cupholder insert. Wood trim.
I've thought about finding a nice D2 A8 with a bad trans or engine to combine with my ratty one (with good engine and trans) to make something that'd go another 100K but I'm not sure it's worth the time and trouble, and it'd have to be nearby. I have an S8 now also.

Bumping this up.
I am now selling my 2001 A8L for parts car. Timing chain tensioner broke. Left bank valves may be hurt. Runs, but very rough.
Car is in decent condition otherwise.
I don't want to sell/ship parts. Car is in Rochester, Minnesota.
$1,000 OBO
