Passage through the firewall?

Passage through the firewall?
I'm planning on mounting a remote radar detector in my 99A8. The sensing head is attached to the front of the radiator, behind the grill. Wires run back to the display unit, which is mounted somewhere inside the cabin. (I'm thinking of putting it in the ashtray at the front of the console.) Any hints on where I can run the wires through the firewall? I confess I have not yet done much exploration, given the relatively frigid temps outside right now. Anyone done something similar?

I looked quite a bit once for the same thing....
and I never found a "good" place to run the wire. It looks like we need to either remove an existing grommet and drill the grommet (best option), or actually drill the firewall (bad option in my book). I haven't addressed this issue for several months, but I need to as we get closer to the summer months when the State patrol tends to run more radar. Have a look, and if you find something, post it here, and I'll do the same. By the way, you wouldn't happen to be a geologist or something, would you (sig)?

Re: Passage through the firewall?
When I mounted my Passport SRX a year ago, we were able to run the wiring across the front of the engine and up the passenger side. We then ran the wires through the existing grommets as I recall. We did it this way so we could get power in the passenger footwell and then mounted the in car unit in that empty space just above the ashtray.
