Poll #1: Problem tranny

Changed fluid and recoded at 113K. Prior to then it would be lazy about upshifting and not downshift.
Lots of scary metal in the fluid change and BLACK fluid.
Better since then.
In hilly environments it hunts and has difficulty getting out of overdrive into other gears; drives much better on hills in '4' than 'D.'
Now it is shifting harder for downshifts (definite jolt and clunk) and probably time for a rebuild or fluid change.

At 90K the tranny started to "thunk" when downshifting from 4th to 3rd while going downhill. Then the tranny started to shudder (clutch slipping) at low RPM/high torque (like while climbing a hill at less than 2000 RPM). Changed fluid and filter and this cured the problem for a while. Currently (112K miles) the tranny is thnuking slightly and shuddering again occasionally. Keeping the RPMs up (and thus the tranny pump pressure) prevents the shuddering, so simply downshifting prevnets the shudder. I will be doing another fliter/fluid change soon, and hopefully this keeps me going for a while longer. With the clutch slipping, it is only a matter of time before it fails. One thing I've noticed is that for a week or so after I recode the transmission it seems to behave itself rather well. So I've also taken to changing the tranny coding from 00011 to 00001 and back again every few weeks. Control issues? I think so.......

98/A8/103K in/out lockup, thump!, hunting for gear. Fluild & filter change to Pennzoil synthitic ATF multi vehicle (ZF OK). Already reprogramed to 00011 but now using Tiptronic to avoid the possiblility of hunting. What's with the rear cam seals dripping oil onto wires? Mine leak when cold, can this get into the connectors and cause bad signals to the transmission?

1999/A8/ starting around 70 K Now at 100k it's gotten a lot worse and annoying as hell. It constantly hunts between gears around 40mph at the very top of the pedal.

Had a wine whenst first purchased two years ago at 72K. (Gheash my wife doesnt drive much huh?) Dealer changed fluid but not filter (dont ask) about six mos. ago.
Seems to be fine now, no tranny issues (knock on wood.)
I am listing intently though and will change the filter at the first sound of trouble or 110k or so, whichever comes sooner

1997/A8/@100k, now at 110k, still lazy
I have not replaced mine but may need to if I sell the car this year. I have grown complacent with the problem and like the car too much to sell it right now.....
