question about oil
So ive been noticing that my 98 has been sounding more and more like a diesel truck these days. Im wondering if its noisy lifters or something like that...my question is, I currently use M1 0w40 oil and was curious to see if anyone knows if changing the oil to a heavier weight might quiet the noise somewhat? Ive heard that from friends with different cars and was just curious as to your experiences.

Had similar problems with my A8
Sounded like a diesel up to about 1700 rpm. Didn't happen when the engine was cold. Switched to 15w/50 and it went away- for a while. Have since sold the car. Bob (A8CT) had the same problem with his. There's a thread or 2 on the subject.

How many miles on your car?
I use 10W 40 Mobil 1 syn. for high mileage vehicles in the summer. In the winter I'll probably go to 0W 40.
My 1990 V8 quattro would make a little noise if I didn't use thicker oil specially in the summer but the car had 162K.
