Recommendations for 01 A8 brake pads?
I am looking at pads for an 01 A8 and I saw RYoungs 10 pad comparison but a majority of those pads are only for the S8. Right now, I found out that I have some garbage pads. Anyone else use these? Its the mintex pads and I think it is contributing to some of the mushiness in the pedal. I am planning on replacing the front and rear pads, and flushing the system using ate blue fluid.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=y2azelr55ewdvk3mu1zhfe55&make id=800002@Audi&modelid=1370797@A8%20QUATTRO%20 &year=2001&cid=14@Brake%20%26%20Wheel%20Hu b&gid=1684@Brake%20Pad%20Set">http://www.autoh

The best pads that also last long and are quiet are the Pagid OEM-class pads. Article-number T1183
I tried so many pads on my 01 A8 but they all have to much drawbacks.
They either have more stopping-power but they kill the discs before 7000 miles.
Others squeel, others fade under very hard braking from high speed.
Other pads leave deposits on the disc causing vibrations on the steeringwheel.
Other pads glaze under high-temperatures.
Others this...
Others that...
There is, in my experience, always *something* annoying about a sports-pad when used with normal street usage so...
...after 1,5 years of trying all sorts of pads and discs, i went back to the Pagid OEM replacement pads (T1183) with thermally treated discs (better than OE).
Quiet, long lasting, disc-friendly and they stop well enough for my purposes (i don't track my car).
I spent thousands of euro's in the last 1,5 years and i never found a pad/disc combo that does not annoy me at some level. Nothing lasted more than 6000 to 7000 miles before being fried or screwed in some way.
The vibrations caused by "hot spots" of pad-deposits are especially annoying.

I ran a set of PBR Ultimate Ceramics. Good street pads and a step above
OEM pads. About 1/3 of the dust of the OE.
Now I have a set of Akebono Euro pads and they have slightly better initial bite with no dust at all. I am definitely happier with the Akebono pads. I don't know if they make them for your application.

I have those (PBR ceramic)
They were noisy for the first 1,000 miles, and are now quiet. There's some brake dust going on, but not nearly as bad as the Pagids I have on my A6. I am very happy with the bite they give and stopping ability. FWIW, I used ATE blue brake fluid to bleed the system as well.

Hi A8CT, Just read your brake poad sugestion post from Nov. about Akebono pads. Can you
tell me where I might go online or physical retailer to pick up front and rear pads? I need them overnight for tomorrow (12/31/08) and I'm having a heck of a time finding them. Even Tire Rack only has the rears.
thks for any help.
