Default Reminder to all D2'ers - always pull over if in doubt of possible damage...

I was nearly home when I swerved to avoid some road debris and I must have tagged it in the driver's rear wheel. Heard an impact but didn't think much of it until I got home and saw the flat tire. Now she sits on a jack waiting to find a tire that has been discontinued.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/97873/img_0131.jpg">

Yes, the car did feel a bit squirrely, but it had just rained for the first time in 3 months and the roads were really oil-slicked and slippery anyway. I thought I'd just patch it up, but when the patch wouldn't stay in I knew it wouldn't hold up at triple digit speeds.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/97873/img_0132.jpg">

While my tire shop is doing a nationwide search for this discontinued Toyo Proxes T1 tire, I get to admire my newly acquired road rash on my previously pristene wheel. It even took a chunk out of the aluminum - bummer! Please learn a lesson from my errant ways and always stop and inspect your D2 after an incident to avoid unnecessary damage to these fine automobiles. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Default That sucks. :-(

There's no patching side wall damage. And really sorry about the wheel. At least you're OK and didn't spin out or something to that effect.

Default Sorry to hear that. Some Toyota Proxes T1's on ebay...

Lots of good take-offs on ebay, and singles/pairs.

Default I'm impressed

You can sustain that kind of damage and not even know it. Speaks to the engineering of these cars!

Default I thought you were going to say "until I got home and saw the blonde hair on the fender"...

If I were you, Jim, I'd (1) tell my good looking wife I'm feeling traumatized and ask her to hold me close, and (2) call my insurance company and hand them a copy of the<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/167797.phtml">manual.</a></li></ul>

Default Try This...

I know this is a long ways from Colorado, but give Radial Tires here in Silver Spring, MD, a try. They are a Toyo retailer and I've been dealing with them for ten years; if anyone can find your tire they can:

Radial Tire
9101 Brookville Rd
Silver Spring, MD 20910
(301) 585-2740

Ask for Sam and tell him you were referred by one of his customers. Also, they give discounts for ACNA membership, so use it if you've got it.

Default Thanks for all of the help, everyone. Wheel is fine & a used tire is being mounted.

Just added another battle scar to the beast this time. No biggie. I'm still pissed at myself - another lesson learned!

Default Sorry to hear of um rashage - that blows. I hear you on the blowout and discontinued tire, BTDT=...

...LAME.

That sidewall blowout = nowayJose patch. That's a new tire all day long.

Bummer on the wheel rashage. I got a FL flat like 2wks after I got mine, same injury. It stunk like a **** and I pulled over before any aluminum injury thankfully.

Best of luck to you. LamelamelamelamelamealameLAME, really, it is...

Default I'm sorry to hear about your mishap. I know you've seen this bfore...

I really saved my wheels using this procedure.

I polished the frame on my bike using the same method years ago.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/susp_whls_brake_steer/A8_Wheel_Repair.html">http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/susp_whls_brake_steer/A8_Wheel_Repair.html</a</li></ul>
