Replace one tire or four?
I got too close to a Belgian block curb and put a gouge in one tire, and I have to replace it. I put the four Bridgestone Turanzas on July 1 of this year, and they have 4400 miles on them. I'm thinking that I have to replace all four tires, so that I don't mess up the transmission. Is this correct?

Two will probably be sufficient.
As long as the profile / tread depth is identical on the same axle you're fine - provided there is not too much difference between front and rear, and you're getting the same tires.
So, I'd measure the depth, and if the difference with the new tires isn't more than 2mm, that would be okay imho.
