Default Tire Recommendation

My wife was driving my '97 Quattro ... you know something is coming ... and the left rear tire shreaded. I have deduced that something cut into the tread deflated the tire, the tire overheated and shreaded the sidewall. There was no problem handling the car (since it was on the back).
So it's time to buy some new tires.

1) I expect that should replace the tires in pairs.

2) Should I stick with the Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires? Would it be a bad idea to put different tires in the front and the back? I was reading reviews of the tires on the net and people complain about them.

Please give me your recommendation(s).

Default This is what I would do...

If the other 3 are good, at least 75% tread, replace the two rears with new tires of the same make/model, if the cost is reasonable. Then move the fronts to the rear and put the new tires on the front. Then wait until the tread evens out a bit to start regular rotation again... might be 10-15k before the fronts catch up to the rears.

Otherwise, just replace all four with matching tires.

The front tires are 9 mos. old/6 miles. The old ones had split on the inside sidewall. Doesn't inspire confidence in this product. The dealer had to put new ones on the car.

Muhammad, it sounds like you think I should stay with the Goodyears, but kamakziep appears to think I can mix and match. Yes, these are the 16" rims.

Well as long as you stick with the same size tire all around its not bad. Keeping them same front to back isnt bad, its if you mix and match side to side that can have negative effects.

Default Quite happy with my Dunlop SP5000's

Not as much grip as the SP8000's (summer only), but quiet, decent grip, and great wet weather performance.
