Default retro fitted a Garnin Nuvi 260 into ac center vent.

Wanted to have a newer GPS system but keep it relatively stock looking. Always liked how the screen was between the vents on the D3's so after sourcing a replacement vent and removing the center vent plastics I found that only one unit out there had the right dimentions. These are the Garmin Nuvi series. Picked up a 260 as didnt want to risk destroying a very expensive ones since I was planning on cracking it open and at that point returning the device ever or using the warranty are pretty much out the window. Cracked it open and after removing the battery the back casing and moving the speaker had it ready to attach to the front of the panel. Rather than make it permanent I used velcro for now and with some electric tape used as trim on the side it fits pretty snug against the dash. Sourced the power from the auto headrest down switch and good to go. Took about 2 hours altogether. What do you guys think?

Here are a few pics along the way. Meant to take more at each step but kept forgetting.

Default Very sharp. My wife just got one from her dad: sticking it on the windshield...

...always looks silly to me. I am not going to wire hers to my car but since it can be battery operated you got me to think about about some kind of clip-on-vent option.

I believe they do have a vent clip for these. When I was searching this forum to see if anyone had done this before I did see some pics of someone with a decent looking vent clip on a A8.

Default Wow that's cool (baaaad pun sure) - very nice install, I like it alot. I might be a little...

...concerned tho about prying eyes with that staring the world in plain view. Tinted windows would help certainly. Just a thought.

Again tho - that's really awesome. Enjoy it.

Default Clever indeed-I have installed Garmin on my pocket pc and plumbed the

<center><img src="http://www.pdadb.net/img/verizon_xv6800.jpg"></center><p>
sound through the amp-now when the music or movies from the storage card on the phone are playing the Garmin voice will come across clearly on top and if the phone rings the music stops and the phone answers automatically then transmits the voice through the bose system/and my voice via the mic-when the call is finished the music resumes and I dont have to touch a thing.
Very cool mod and the poi's of things such as speed camera warnings are very useful.

Thanks. I agree, windows are being tinted to 28% next week and the unit is actually held in place with velcro so when parked in a questionable area I can just pull it off the dash.
