I converted the binary codes using Uwe's template. Works like a charm.

Default Uwe's template? Do you have a URL?

This is puzzling to me.

The Rosstech site (the online manual) actually points back to the tech article here on AW for central locking recode options and it uses that same tabular info on the pages with model info.

I broke down John Stahman's table on AW tech forum some time ago to its decimal weighted equivilants to understand how its numbers are generated and PaulW posted it recently at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AudiA8repair/files/Audi%20A8%20Security%20coding%20options%2C%20rev%2 00%208-02.pdf One of the decimal weighted bits I dont have a function for is 0. Your 16233 implies bit 0 is a 1. I would love to know if Uwe has determined functions for other bits.

I used it from the '02 A4 user's group and did the math myself off my base code.

Default Is this the data?

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audiB6.html
That is Uwe's list for the B6 chassis.

Isnt the '02 S8 Central Locking the same as the '01 S8? My Bentley says so. It says the default coding is 16140, which is the same as the 98-01 A4 (Concert/Symphony radio equipped cars).

I noticed several differences between the soft coding on the B6 car and the earlier ones. For instance the B5 chassis central locking soft code does not have valid adaptation channel 62, but the bit for turning on and off the window/remote option is 6 for both. The B5 offers the equivilant of the decimal 95 soft coding found in the B6 adaptation channel 62. I dont know if our '01 S8 has that channel or not since it is the shop right now.

Default No, I did it ala carte since my code was not the same as listed in John S's tech article...

I think the 'a la carte' values were the same from what I procured for my ex-'02 A4 from the user's group. The 1st table in John's article may be the same as the B6 A4. I haven't cross referenced, but I remember having to use Central Convenience on the B6 rather than the Central Locking module. <ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec39.shtml">https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec39.shtml</a</li></ul>

Default Do you recall your original code?

When I take your 16233 and map it against my table from Johns article, with the info Uwe has in his B6 article (most of the features match by the way), I get a reasonable set of features but one odd one.

Here are the features from Johns article that would be ON in your softcode:

Horn honk on arm
Remote window control enabled
Auto lock via speed
One Touch unlock

These are the additional features that the B6 article would suggest were on if they are the same:

USA only - No SAFE
normal/???? alarm system
door/window logic
1x flash when remote lock
Avant only - glass break sense
Great Britian only

The last two are odd ones. The "glass break" sense bit is normally on in the default of 16140 (the Bentley number) but the "Great Britian only" isnt on in any of the options I have seen and Uwe's article suggests it doesnt do anything in the US.

As far as you can tell, are these the options you have working? Also, can you access an adaptation channel 62 from the central locking (35) or central convienence (46) module?

Default Yes, all these work...

Horn honk on arm
Remote window control enabled
Auto lock via speed
One Touch unlock

I went in through central locking and haven't thrown a DTC, yet. I don't recall the original code, but it wasn't what it was supposed to be via Stahman or Bentley.

Default So it sounds like you have the Central Locking versus Central Convience

Central Locking (35) is what the '01 have. The B6 doesnt have central locking but Central Convienence (46) instead. My guess is 16232 will work the same as 16233.

Quick Reply: S8 people who want speed sensitive and 1 touch lock-unlock, code is 16233. :)
