Default Seeking buying advice - '99 A8Q, 80K miles

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This car appears to be in great shape mechanically and cosmetically. I have tried to research as much as I can on Audipages and on here. The thing that scares me most is the potential for the tranny to go kaboom! Can someone also please list the changes/improvements (facelift details and mechanical) that were introduced in the 2000 model year.

Thank you in advance.

Default I would get a facelift car

It has a nicer armrest, the chrome on the bumpers, the symphony radio if you ever wanted to put a nav system in, but both of them will need a tranny rebuild sooner or later.

The facelift car should not "hunt" because it does not have a throttle cable, but throttle by wire.

Default Is this 99 in MN by chance?

If so it sounds like my old car.

Do the rebuilt transmissions have a limited life expectancy too?

Default Yes

But a rebuilt transmission should of fixed the problem that caused it to fail....but you should not expect more than 100K out of your transmission before a clutch basket rips or the reverse clutch F seal blows out.

Not to say it couldn't last 200K, but you should expect 100K. About $3500 for a removal, install and rebuild these days from somebody who has done it a bunch.

Default If I do a fluid/filter/gasket change immediately....

...as instrucrted on Audipages.com, and repeat every 30K miles thereafter, will this preventative measure be able to cheat the anticipated transmission death?
