Hi my A8 has a short circut between + and - terminals. First my altenator did overheat and began smoking. i got a replacement from a junkyard, still same problem.. Then i measured my battery cables i the booth, short.. Can the terminals in the right wheelhouse be a possible cause? A8 4.2 Petrol 1994.

Have you looked at the "connection" block in the right front fender well ? ...VERY prone to corrosion ...and corrosion is often conductive.

If that is OK check the wiring from the battery to the starter and the alternator wiring as well. There is not much that is not fused.

Just came in from the garage, and happy. :-)
I did clean up the cables under the frame, they were not in great contition, so clean up and greased.
The "new" alternator that i got from the scrapyard was indeed faulty, got a new one today, worked like a charm :-)
