Sunroof Leak (gasket/seal)
Hello!
I didn't find any existing threads on D2 discussions in regards to the issue I'm experiencing.
Car:
2001 A8L
Issue:
Sunroof leaks when water is applied under pressure (heavy rain with wind & car washes)
Cause:
Worn sunroof gasket/seal. It leaks from all around it. The rubber/felt seal that is around the glass part of it that is supposed to be flush against the metal.
Solution?
I've tried ordering one from the dealer, but they were discontinued a while ago
I've tried scrap yards, but they seem to be in a worse shape than mine
eBay? haven't tried because I don't want to be stuck with an extra sunroof panel and same worn gasket..
Does anyone know of an alternative? whether DIY or aftermarket?
Or perhaps a VW that has the same sized sunroof that I can retrofit the seal from?
So far I've had to tape the sunroof shut to prevent water from getting in, I live in an area with weekly windstorms & heavy rains
Any help would be appreciated!

That's actually more of a wind/dirt seal, I believe. I'd bet the sunroof drain system is plugged. Try running a length of weed whip string up through at be sure the drains are free.

drained every single one, including under rear bumper. i see the water drip from around that dirt seal. its basically raining inside the car at a car wash

If the drains are clear, water should go through the fuzzy seal and run along troughs to the drain tubes that go to all four corners at the bottom of the car. If it doesn't flow properly, some part of the drainage system is blocked.

yeah, at first it pooled, I've drained the rear ones, and they were very clogged. Mud came out. It hasn't pooled since! now though, the issue is when it drips from around that seal onto that sunshade cover and it gets it all wet

So the troughs or the points at the sunroof where the drain pipes connect to the troughs are plugged. There are plastic connectors that can be broken. Headliner removal is required to reach them.
