Thinking of buying an A8 (1998-1999 wanting advice......
1) Would this car be large enough for 2 adults and 2 babies and a large dog, if need ever arose ? I am trying to convince my wife that we can replace the 4runner we have with an A8. I used to tow motorcycles and drive around with the dog often, but with twins coming plans are changing quickly!!!!
2) I want to buy a low mileage 98 or 99 because of the scary depreciation on the new ones. Are there any major changes in the last 3 model years I would want to consider? I am looking for a car w/ cold package and xenons. Is there a sport package?
I have an S4, the a8 would get my lovely wife out of it!!! Suddenly she doesn't like her SUV as much as she used too!! Imagine that.
Thank you for any comments

The improvement from 1998 to 1999 year model (europe, probably 1999 to 2000 in the US) is mostly cosmetic. But there are some changes in the front suspension that will improve handling.
However, it is easy and cheap to upgrade a pre-1999 A8 to be better handling than the stock version of the new model. Just buy some serious aftermarket suspension from Koni, HR Gewinde, Bilstein or others. I don't know the prices in the US, here it would be less than $1500. No big deal.
My '97 has the complete sports packet option, which include the S8 suspension and interior, and 18" wheels. It handles better and sharper than a 2001 with stock suspension. I don't think the sports packet is/was available for the US market.
