Tips for replacing ABS pump?

Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the ABS pump on a 97 A8? My dealer wont do it because I didnt buy the part from them.

It looks pretty simple but I am sure it isnt as easy as it looks.

Thoughts?

Do you have the Bentley?

I've never done this job, but to bleed the system, you need a VAG tool to run the ABS pump. I don't know if VAG-COM is able to do this. Other than this, the procedure looks straightforward.

BTW: Your dealer seems to be taking an unreasonable hard-nosed attitude.

my dealer is pathetic. The last time I had work done they killed the battery and "lost" the battery cover. I had to buy a new one.

They dont give me a rental car anymore. This is a topic for another discussion. Apparently ALL A8 owners are entitled to a loaner, regardless of age of the car or warranty. Others disagree.

I have another story I will post as a new topic right now.

I do not have a Bentley...but

If someone can scan or PDF those pages I will gladly PayPal over some $$ for your efforts.

It appears that all you have to do is disconnect the 4 "pipes", power and controller cable. Unbolt the ABS module and reconnect everything.

I have a VAG COM cable but since the ABS module is dead it wont communicate with it.
