Default Excellent info - Thanks!

I was thinking about how the transmission learns and if it's possible for it to learn bad habits from the driver. The next fluid change I think I'll try purging the memory and see what changes. Maybe our transmissions have a lot in common with XP and it just needs a reboot every once in a while.

Not sure if there are firmware updates for the A8 or not.

http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans.html</a

Default How often should you purge the memory and how do you do that?

Just by disconnecting the battery or by using VAGcom?

Default Re: How often should you purge the memory and how do you do that?

I don't know how frequently a reboot is beneficial. Reading through some of the many contributions to this list, some owners routinely perform a throttle adaptation bimonthly.

Rather than pull the battery leads and deal with the resetting of the Radio, etc. I pulled the multi-pin connector on the TCM in the e-box, passenger side. There could be improvements from re-initialization of both the ECM and the TCM. Disconnecting the battery may be worth trying. I plan to explore that at a time very soon.
