Transmission shifting
My 2001 A8L sometimes starts off in second gear. This is only occurs after warmed up. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough. I noticed while starting off in second if I just slightly let off the accelerator and press down again the transmission returns back into first. I don't have any problems using the manual mode just in automatic mode. Has anyone experienced the same problem and any suggestions for repair?

I think he's saying something different, only happens AFTER warmed up.
I don't think the warm up sequence actually starts in second gear, it holds first for a longer period of time.
I would check the fluid level as a first step OR did this start after a fluid change?

I had the Transmission fluid changed at the dealership recently and they also indicated that my shift patern is normal too. They indicated no codes were noticed when they checked it on the computer too.

very high percentage of these jobs get botched, even at dealers.
What you're describing is not normal.
I would be suspect that fluid is low and that wouldn't necessarily throw a code.

There is a transmission soft code that can be changed. One code for "North America" ...
... and the other code is "Rest of the World."
The original poster's A8 starts out in 2nd gear after it warms up due to the gas-saving North American shift program and it's perfectly normal.
