Default To turn or not to turn - that is the question?

Hi all,

I've used PBR Metal Master (low dust) pads successfully on our various Audi's for several years. About 5,000 miles ago, I put PBR Metal Master Pads on my wife's '99 A8Q (along with new rotors) and broke them in according to manufacturers instructions. However they've squealed like stuck pigs under light/moderate braking at slow speeds. I've tried the goo on the back of the pads, resetting the pads, etc. to no avail.

I'm resigned to replacing the fronts with stock pads. Do you think I need to turn the rotors with only 5000 miles on them? Your comments welcome. Tkx,

From the name (metal master), these sound like high metal content pads. I do not have a squealing problem with ceramics and they are also low dust.

If you don't have a warping problem or deep pitting you might just fix the problem with new pads alone.

Default OEM pads are hard to beat for quiet, but ...

They are dusty and overheat easily. The only silent pad on My List would be the BPR Ceramic.

I had HAWK HPS pads on my old S4 and they were silent, light on dust, and gripped like hell!

Default Good luck with Pagid Black, Bad with the Blau parts replacement pad

I had replacement pads from Blau Parts (formerly Blaufarnugen - I can't spell) and they squealed like crazy. I think they were semi-metallic. Anyway swapped the fronts to Pagid black and it has been quiet ever since.

Default Agree that the Pagid RS-4-2-1 Black is quiet, but it's fairly dusty.

The RS4-2-1 Black is the street pad. The Pagid RS14 Black is the very popular full race pad. Both are quiet, but the ceramic RS14 causes aggressive rotor wear when cold (i.e. when used on the street).
