Not a maintenance item to ignore. Why would anyone push that anyway?

Default There's a member on that board

who is purposely pushing the envelope. Hopefully he heeds this warning. Yikes.

Default I know somebody here just had a failure

And said they were running it to failure. I have no idea why you would do that....it would cost $5K to repair. Or $500 in parts on the front end and no loss of car during the process.

Default At 110,000 miles it is to be expected........

At 110,000 miles it is to be expected that timing belt rated for 75,000 miles would break. I really feel bad for the occasional times when a belt breaks 5,000 miles before the suggested change interval.

Of course tires are really the most important rubber item on a car and people ignore the condition of those with even worse disastrous results.
