Default V60 Install almost complete

I just about finished my install today, so very cool. Still waiting for external antenna for inside the front window, and now I'm thinking of using the factory wiring for the microphone.

How much wiring did I have to do?

Essentially NONE

I used the original phone wiring, power supply, speaker wiring, everything, just had to make one patch cord to plug into the phone fitting in the console and a jumper cable for the D25 female connector in the trunk.

Even got the MUTE function to work, press a button, it mutes the radio. All with the factory harness. Super easy interface.

However, for some weird reason, the MUTE function stopped working after I toggled the phone a million times......with a big smile on my face of course. Will have to troubleshoot it another day.

I will write it all up, it will be super easy to install if you know what I know now. If you can install a radio in a 76 Buick (Pioneer Super Tuner), then you can do this install.

Default Muting with V60

I look forward to your final instructions Paul.

FYI, I have the factory phone installed and working in my 1997. You do not have to push a mute button for the radio, it mutes before the first ring or when you press the Send button to make a call. On my car, the radio display does not change to "Phone" either when I am on the line - it just goes blank.

Anyway, I look forward to following your instruction to get my V60 installed as well.

Default Mine doesn't say "phone" in the display

However, it does mute the phone. But then it stopped. It mutes the phone by providing a ground path for a relay in the trunk that cuts out the power to the bose speakers (or at least that's what I think), I can hear the relay.

My display still showed the radio station however.

And anytime you start dialing with your phone, it mutes the system.

Will try to get started on the write up today.

pw (and thanks for the answer, I was going to post the questions regarding "phone" in the display on 97's, but I think 98's and later will do it)

I too will be looking for a phone soon. I believe motorla is coming out with a bluetooth phone and car device. Just enter the car and the car blutooth sees the phone in your pocket.
Voila! I guess its like having an extension phone in the car. Thats all I know at this point. We really need radio mp3 phone palm & navigation all in one. I made a hot wired cradle for my ipod in my Avant and its great.

Hi Paul

I mis-spoke the other day - my radio display does NOT blank out when I make or receive a call.

However, the mute function does not begin until I press the SEND button whereas you claim your V60 was muting as soon as you started dialing. Could the mute wire be connected incorrectly or did you get the mute function to work again?

Default The output of the electronics box is just different from yours

Anytime it has the buttons being dialed, it mutes the radio.

However, after a short period of time after I use it once or twice, it stops muting until the car is "cold" again.

I think the circuit is being overdriven by the current required to pick up the relay that cuts out the radio. I plan to just have the circuit forward bias a simple power tranistor which will make the circuit to energize the cut out relay for the radio.

Will try that soon.

Thanks.

Paul,

Have you modified your original V60 install to fix the muting problem?
