Default viscous clutch urgent help

Guys,

I need a ton of help here. I need to change the v c and i don't have the pulley tool. In my country, i don't have where to buy that. Is there another way to lock the pulley? I ve tried with some wood but no result. the screw is rusty and won't unscrew. I even used some anti rust spray. Plus, i don't know how to remove the radiator fan assembly and working with the fan installed and all that stuff on, it's quite a mess.
Heeeeeeeeeeelp.

Default Did you try holding it with one of the four 10mm screws?

Use a 10 mm wrench on one of the screws and hold it while you to loosen (clockwise, it's a left hand thread) the fan. If you can block the 10 mm wrench and then use an impact on the large wrench (hit it bluntly with a rubber mallet or hammer) to impact it off.

I'll try it tomorrow, but i'll need to put a pipe or smthg on the 10mm because it's too small and i cant hold it so you say there is no need to remove the radiator assembly?

Default You can get it off without removing the radiator assembly

I've done it before....was a long time ago. Keep the belt on it when loosening....and you might have to take the belt off to get it out....can't remember.

i hate these clutches. why can't they just put electric fans? I had same problem with 96 S320 (MB), and it was also quite a mess locking the pulley both to loosen & to tighten. (

Default more shade-tree solutions...

Use two little box wrenches at different angles, hold them together in a V

of course, dribble a little a penetrating oil into the big reverse threaded hub overnight.

with a drill and hacksaw/grinder it isn't too hard to make a custom holder wrench out of a heavy steel strip. cut a cardbaord template first. two holes for the bolt heads and a half moon clearance cut

hitting the big wrench to break the hub loose is good advice. try that first without any holding. lots of sharp tapping, it is reverse thread. the hub is smaller than 36mm, it might be 32, not sure. you might have to thin a wrench down. I have a 36 for a 320 mercedes and it is too big for the Audi.

Default the tool you need is a Matra 3212 ...

if not you can slip an allen through one of the holes. It should get hung up on the valve cover. Good Luck!

Here's wher to get the tool:

http://www.samstagsales.com/</a

an allen, yes, i thought of that too, but the one that fits (of course, with the smaller end) is too short and doesn't reach the valve cover.
I'll try to make my own tool, half moon shape, with only two teeth and a loooong handle. I hope it will work.
I tried again today to unlock it, and it seems it's dam stuck. I used half of anti rust spray....
Damn screw....
