viscous fan clutch - 100K miles and can stop with pencil
but it dinged up the pencil pretty good.
I guess I don't understand that pencil test. Istn't the fan *supposed* to stop turning at highway speeds? The force of the air blowing through it is supposed to be enough to stop it?
What should happen if I stick a pencil in a fan with a healthy clutch?
As I see it, as long as the fan is turning at idle, it's pulling air through the radiator, right?
Despite something like an hour and a half spent creeping through a traffic jam this summer at 98F, it didn't overheat. So, I'm not sure if this is really bad and should be replaced, or not.

If the car is not overheating, don't worry about it. It is an easy fix, but why do it unless you have trouble. If and when you start seeing the temp guage rise in stop-and-go traffic, order the part and do the trick.

Help! Replaced mine and now it breaks a pencil, but now my engine roars like a jet engine @ high RPM
Is that normal? Is it just coincidence and something else might have happened at same time. Engine is so loud when accelerating you really would think a jet is taking off.
