Why the F would you design a thermostat behind the timing belt?!!!!

Yes, I have a 2000 that is overheating.
I was suspecting the thermostat, and thanks to the forum, that is probably the issue.
But, why the heck would they bury the thermostat???
Audi needs to have their design team consult with their maintenance team to make these cars easier to work on. Not so much for the sunday mechanic, but to reduce in-warranty repair costs, and make folks feel better about maintaining their Audi out of warranty.
-sorry for ranting, but there are some stupid design issues with this car!!

Only like that on the 40V motor, the 32 valve motor it's in front and easy to change
But they don't fail, only the 40v motors have the failing thermostat!

For the same reason the V8 engine for the smaller chassis has the cam drives between the engine and tranny? But I bet the thermo is easier to get at.
They don't care about servicability, obviously.
On the A8 there isn't any reason that the thermo could not have been placed in a module in the hose, except it might have cost them $10 or so.

Default to open failure mode--good idea??
For a few European engines you used to be able get these thermostats, they were about twice the price of normal. I don't know how they worked (or even if) but always thought they sounded like a good idea.

Because it does not make any sense, thats why.
I hate to rant more, but why would should the F125 switch failing take out the cruise control AND the power mirrors? DUMB DUMB DUMB, and DUMB.

You need F125 for the cruise and the mirror.
F125 will enable the cruise in D432 and Tiptronic. If you accidentally hit the shifter to N while the cruise engaged, it will disable it and save your engine to over rev. Position R on F125 will tilt your right side mirror down and disable the auto dim.

I know, but there is no real reason they can not be tied into each other but still not cause the ...
.... others to fail when the F125 switch does.
If this was an airplane......
.... we could die from dumb engineering like that...... and for the cost of an A8 new it should be treated like one. Too many items on this car are not fully thought out IMO.
