Windshield wipers are getting worse (slower)
Can it be anything other than the motor? They still work but are verrrry slow. Is the motor hard to replace? Anything else to check?

I replaced my whole assy
Its rather easy.. 30 minute job. My wipers slowed down because the "transmission" that delivers power to the 2 wipers broke. Seems like the ZF tranny is not the only tranny that goes bad on the Audi. Do you hear the motor straining? Have you tried to grease the joints?
Take the lower plastic against the windshield off and look for any linkage breaks, or any joints that could use some lithium grease.

Yes, however there is 1 joint that is very hard to lubricate with it in the car
The actual joint that the motor spins. Mine was covered with a plastic cover however the new assyw as not. I wonder if his motor has the cover installed.

Re: Windshield wipers are getting worse (slower)
Mine was starting to get slow, so I removed the cabin air intake parts over the mechanism and sprayed WD-40 on the arm and hinge. Then a couple of days later I went back with some extremely light machine oil and it hasn't given me trouble since. Even in major snow and ice.
