Without the 6-speed the S8 is too slow!

Without the 6-speed the S8 is too slow!
If Audi only brings the S8 to the U.S. with an auto I will get my deposit back. 6.0 sec(est) 0-60 isn't worth 75k or so. There are too many sedans on the market that will leave you in the dust,(A6 2.7T with the 6 for example runs in the same time for 30k less and the other two Germans will really smoke you). The S8 with the 6 speed is a sick car and definetly worth the cash but the tip just doesn't cut it. I hope AoA is out there listening.

Keep in mind that if you took off like you need to achieve the quoted acceleration time often you'd
have no clutch. If you like to row that's fine. AoA should bring in the 6 sp. but not because the tip is slow. Most drivers would probably get constantly usable better acceleration with the tip.

Re: Without the 6-speed the S8 is too slow!
May I laugh, STS ? BMW and Mercedes will definitely NOT smoke the S8. On a 0-60 basis the V12s are not quick enough to smoke it. And without the quattro they are handling like **** anyway. I drove the S8 Tip and I gotta tell ya, this is a different world. You think, the A8 is fast with its 310 HP ? The S8 feels like 150 HP more that the regular A8 although there are only 50HP more ... it is amazing .. and I drove a german spec that is not as quick as the US spec is going to be so ... I would suggest .. before getting back your deposit, drive the car ... you are the one that will smoke the 2 other germans. For a much lesser price.

Agreed (more)
Unless you can shift well, which most people can't but they also wont admit it, the tip will probably be faster. Check the S4 forums to see how often a tip S4 beats cars that are supposed to be faster than it. Besides, you can chip the tiptronic tranny to get better response.
Face it, a few people here might be serious about buying a 6-speed S8 but how many do you really think Audi would sell in the US?

Calis- I was referring to the M5 and E55, not the V12s. I consider these cars to be more along the same lines as the S8 even though they are smaller. Plus the V12s are in the $100k range.

STS - the S8 was never considered to compete an E55 or the M5. First of all, these cars are newer .. ok, you may say that both cars are on the market in the US and the S8 is still not, but in Germany, the S8 was on the market before the M5 and E55 of the latest series.
In Germany the M5 is tested against the S6 which in my opinion makes sense. Ok, the S6 is slower, true, but that is the only part where it looses ground .. all other criterias are better in the S6 .. all-day-usage .. you wanna drive a M5 in winter ? Have fun ;-) You wanna drive a M5 in rain ? Have fun ;-) I'll beat you in a S6 tip under these circumstances .. so .. Germany is a different market, you are right, but the cars are developed and build in Germany so you should look at the competition over there.
Talking about the price .. you are right and that is why the S8 is a better buy than the Mercedes S-class or V12 BMW.
Mercedes is considering the E55 as a looser on the NA market themselves because they hardly sell any .. too expensive for an E-class Mercedes ..
So .. all over all .. I'd go for the S8 .. you have more fun AND still can use it every day no matter what the weather is going to be ... if you only want to go fast and have a good sedan for all-day go for the M5 .. NOT for the E55 .. but, oh well, that's just my opinion .. :-)
