104 degrees in Louisiana and trying to get into trunk for 3 hrs
2006 A8L - dead (new) battery after being parked for months. Got in it yesterday, tried to crank with key (stupid idea) - key can't be removed. (Steering wheel IS in lock position also) .
Removed the tiny black cover on ignition ring, pressed in there with tiny screwdriver. No luck at all ! Can't remove key.
Drove back home to get spare key to unlock trunk. Can't insert the key into the trunk lock ! Can only insert approx. 1/4 inch then as if hitting a wall.
Finally removed rear seat and cut into the middle ski pass thru channel. Then after another hour of searching and wondering where the release is, I realized the lever for the
emergency release had been 'broken' off at some point and was sitting in bed of trunk near battery . Tried to attach it to end of broom handle to press it against the
bolt to turn it but NOW the black surrounding decorative piece is slightly shifted over and preventing me from pushing the lever attached to the broomstick back onto the bolt piece.
JESUS !!!!!
Is there any reason why my second key WONT go into the trunk lock ?? Is there a Lock Out feature that literally BLOCKS the Locks from even its own key if another key is stuck in the ignition??
'
Is there a way to reverse charge somehow by wiring up something to plug into the cigarette lighter ??
Will a lock smith even be able to get into the trunk lock if I can't put my OEM key in it ???
Man, I wish it was winter time
Thanks for any suggestions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Everyone should practice the emergency procedures on this car under ideal conditions.
1. Releasing the shift lever when the car will not recognize the ignition key fob.
2. Removing the ignition key when battery is dead (Disconnect battery to simulate).
3. Close sunroof when sunroof motor fails.
4. Hood release cable snaps off somewhere.

Actually i I think a few of them are listed out in the owners manual? I think I have marked a couple of them in mine?
But it a single post (maybe turns into a sticky) that has them all detailed, would be a great idea?

FWIW, I think ##1-3 are in a quaint document sometimes found in glove compartments. Called...the owner's manual. If a prior seller/dealer/auction yard didn't sleaze it off on EBay that is. Other recurring theme to these that is a little indirect is often the practical need for two keys. People try to get by with one given replacement cost or hassle, but when it counts the bite can be nasty.

Add onto that list how to disengage a stuck on/failed parking brake.

Jumping the battery
Very easy to do from inside the car. Under front passenger side kick panel is a positive power terminal. Pop up plastic trim to get access to remove the kick panel, remove the metal bracket with a few 10mm nuts and under there is the terminal. Attach a positive power source, find a ground on the body, and presto you have power! Open the trunk, jump the battery and you're in business.
