Default Anyone using an oil extractor device

to do oil changes? Looking for anyway to make it a little less unpleasant and figured this might do it. Plus I could use it on the Q5. Thanks!

Many shops of course now use pumps to save time (= money) and it's probably fine, but I guess I'm old school and just prefer to know I've drained [most] everything out.

Laying on the garage floor...imho..is vastly over-rated especially in the winter!!

If you are dedicated to do it yourself that’s the way to go.

Since the filter removes from the top that's what I'm thinking it's just that taking the airbox apart with the MAF is such a PITA. Actually taking it apart is not the problem it's putting it back together. 160 dollar oil change at the dealer is just hard to swallow. Found another dealer who will do it for 125 but still....

My indy does it for $115 after coupon. If you think of it it's not terrible to have someone do it.

General cars oil change $20 every 3 k.

Added up: $60.

Your car with twice the oil and only once every 10k miles = $120.

I understand your point but I have a problem with 10k between changes. If this tool makes it easier then I will be able to do it more frequently without the pain of laying on the garage floor!!!

If that is the case - don't use it! Changing oil more frequently has no sense and it is bad for environment. You should pay for that at least by laying on a garage floor.

I've taken some of my best naps on the creeper under the car. My wife just sees feet and figures I'm doing something productive. Don't tell!

My comments about long intervals between motor oil changes;

my '01 Beetle Turbo says 5000 miles which is the interval I follow. I use 5W-40 VW504 (0r whatever the designator is) full synthetic oil. When I change it, the oil sure seems dirty (5L / 4.5 quarts). On my A8 4.2, using the same oil at the 10,000 mile interval I follow, the oil does not seem as dark black or have as foul of an odor.

My wife has a GMC Envoy with the 4.2L I-6 cylinder engine and the GM "oil change computer system" that takes into account time, idle time, engine load etc. to determine % of oil life left. Her typical interval hits 10% left between 11,000 and 13,000 miles which is when I change it. That uses fossil oil with a GM 6094 or something like that desiginator. That oil does not seem rancid when I change it either.

My previous vehicles ('87 Audi 5000CS quattro for example) look out!

I sure don't miss the days of 3000 mile intervals on my long-gone '74 VW Super Beetle. That air cooled engine cooked the oil that's for sure.
