Default Back-up camera module replacement - ebay. 2008 S8

My back-up camera stopped working and Audi determined it was the Back-up Camera Control Module.
The price from Audi was around $600. I bought one on ebay for $49.92 and installed it
It works perfectly. I was a bit concerned that it may not function but the seller guaranteed it would work.
Anyway saved myself at least $550 plus whatever labor they would have charged.
WooHoo!!

There are a lot of variables that can cause the camera to stop functioning.
The first time I had an issue the image would flicker on and off, sometimes work, sometimes not. That turned out to be a cable issue or the camera itself.
When the rear camera just suddenly stopped producing and image that was the module.
You may want to have the issue diagnosed first that would be more efficient and save you from buying stuff you don't need.
Then you can go on ebay or the internet and find a much less expensive replacement.
You can pick up a used camera for $50-$75 on the internet or you can spend $500 from Audi.
If you do have to replace the camera try to find the latest version. 4L0980551D is the latest version

Thanks, will vagcom reveal the issue? Do you have any BTDT on locating and replacing the module?

So, I ran VAGCOM and it showed a "short to ground" for the rear camera module. Is that a module gone bad? I don't know where the wires for this run, but I'm wondering if this may be somehow related to the clogged sunroof drain I had that dampened my headliner up front passenger side.

Just for the sake of posterity....my "short to ground" code turned out to be the camera module. Replaced it (ebay $30) and started right up.

I know I'm on the wrong thread but I'm reaching for straws at this moment. I need to know the location of the camera module on the A8 and maybe it's the same (or close to same location) as my Q7.

On the A8 it is on the left side of the trunk up near the rear seat back.
