Default Does Audi have any plans for a bigger V8 engine to match the new 750i?

The 2006 7-Series facelift details are out and the car gets a new 4.8 engine with 360 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque, capable of a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds. I am sure the 2006 S500 will also have a new engine with at least same horsepower levels. The A8 has decent power on paper (and excellent hp and tprque numbers for a 4.2 liter engine), but some of the magazine tests have been less than spectacular when it comes to engine performance (0-60 in about 7 seconds). I was just wondering if Audi has something bigger in the pipeline to keep up with the competition. It seems like they've been tweaking the same 4.2 V8 for almost a decade and the other German makers are using higher displacement engines.

2006 BMW 7-Series facelift info

Default Hopefully the FSI will be the dual mode version...

when US gas sulfur is 15ppm, FSI can run in statified mode, not just the homogeneous mode.

Stratified mode would have the net result of deactivation of the cylinders on a big motor: better mpg at partial throttle.

I can't wait.

Now if that 90's AT shift plate could be updated to the new A6's...

Default Re: 4.2 FSI with 350 - 360 hp for '06 along with the facelift.

I think that the 4.2L FSI V8 will produce 420 hp and 317 lbs/ft of torque in the B7 RS 4, Q7 SUV and D3 A8/A8L and 360 hp and 310 lbs/ft of torque in the B7 S4, C6 A6 and C6 AllRoad SUV. Word has it that the B7 RS 4 will weigh 300 pounds less than a similarly equipped B7 S4, making the mere 60 hp gap and even more mere 7 lb/ft torque gap very sufficient. Just like Klaus, I also hope that the 4.2L FSI V8, the all new 5.5L FSI V10 and the 6L FSI W12 have cylinder deactivation for substantially improved fuel economy. To meet market and buyer demands (and to keep up with comparable M, AMG and V models from BMW, MB and Cadillac and even comparable R models from Jaguar and Volvo, despite higher end S and RS models' (i.e. S5/RS 5 coupe and up) weight penalties against those cars), the all new FSI V10 will have to have 5.5L of displacement and will have to produce 450 hp and 369 lbs/ft of torque in the future B8 S5 coupe, C6 S6 and QS 6 (high performance C6 AllRoad) SUV and 550 hp and 413 lbs/ft of torque in the future B8 RS 5 coupe, C6 RS 6, QS 7, D3 S8, LeMans RS R and, of course, the Lambourghini Gallardo. The 6L FSI W12 in the D3 A8/A8L will have to produce 600 hp and 465 lbs/ft of torque to sufficiently distance itself from the 4.2L FSI V8, also in the D3 A8/A8L and all new 5.5L FSI V10 in the D3 S8.

Default slight correction: Stratified mode FSI would have the same effect as cylinder deactivation...

Both would substantially improve fuel economy, using different techniques to achieve the same goal.

Default Stop reading the german mags lol...

No offense but youre jumping out a little far. There will be 2 versions of the 4.2 FSI - Normal and high-rev. The D3 A8 4.2 will have the normal version with 350 - 360 hp (no final #'s yet).
