Default ESP Fault on Audin A3.

Whilst motorway driving at high speed (80 mph +) in good conditions sometimes in a STRAIGHT line the ESP will switch in and send the car all over the place. Very disconcerting and unnerving when there is no apparent reason. It has only just started happening, but obviously is a very dangerous situation when overtaking.

Sounds like an issue with the speed sensors sending false input. Could be a few things, though. Anyway, post this in the A3 forum, A8's have nothing in common with A3's.

Thanks Jack, I couldn't login to the site at first, so I'm surprised my question turned up anywhere. Diagnostics next week to try and establish the problem, but I'm guessing it will be expensive whatever!! I suppose I could just ignore it as long as I don't go too fast?

From the symptoms you describe, I would pull the plug on your speed sensors, since either faulty or corrupted input is the most likely problem. That will disable your ABS and ESP, but given what it is doing, it would be safer. If you can't disable the system, you should not drive the car, it sounds like it's behavior is very dangerous, at any speed.
