Exchanged D2 problems for D3 problems (update)
Thanks for the great discussion. I enjoyed it. I just got the car back from the dealer and my wife is out with it doing what ladies do (shopping). The main problem was the battery, which the dealer replaced (factory warranty) along with a window switch. I thought that the battery was replaced just before I purchased the car in September, so I was surprised that it could be the problem. I had wrong information about the old battery being relatively new. I haven't had a chance to check the setup for the interior lights as was suggested in the previous posts.
I am not new to Audi. I bought the first one - 1981 5000S new. The rest used: 1986 5000CSQ, 1992 100CSQ Pearl White(still have it), 1997 A8. Drove the 92 to the dealer to pick up the A8 and the whole service department came out to look at it, and the service writer had it washed for me. Great wash job. Some of these guys were in elementary school when this car was new.
Thanks, Paul, for your comments. My 97D2 had one electrical problem - no interior lights when the rear doors wete opened. Common with the 97.

My 1981 4000 5+5 was bought two years old, 29,000 miles
for $8k. It was donated to charity with 225,000 miles after an inner CV Joint blew apart. I had the title in the glovebox as I knew something like that would happen. I merely signed it, put the key in the ashtray and called Volunteers of America.
Bought my '87 5000CS quattro new in the fall of 1987 as the stock markets were crashing.
Bought my '04 A8L off of someone's expired two year lease. It was built in March, 2003 and still has the original battery.
Tic-tock, that's the sound of the ticking bomb of a battery that will one day fail on me.
