How to re-build soft close door latch ?
Atomic Tom made me aware of a UK forum where in a chap put a new micro switch in his soft close A8 door latch ; thereby restoring proper operation.
In the write up he cites using a Maplin N86AQ switch that is not available in the US. The electronics supply store here in KC does not have a cross reference book with which to determine an equivalent switch. Does anyone know of a data base that can make a cross reference match ? Or does anyone have knowledge about doing said re-build ?
The latch is no longer available from Audi, and anu=y driver's door unit from a salvage yard is a real gamble because the more often used driver's door is always the switch that quits working; so likely as not to be DOA.

It Just looks to be a normal microswitch with a long lever, however, these switches are also fitted to Jaguars (X type - In the J gate shifter) and Alfa Romeo 146 147 Boot light switch if you need to get one from a wrecker.

Thanks for the suggestion...however niether of those applications are something that would be obtainable from a yard in the course of how yards do business.
You said "looks to be ...", where did you find a photo of the latch switch ? I have never seen one and it would be very helpful to do so. I have not pulled my latch yet; would like to have the replacement switch to do the repair.

Thanks for the pic ! So, have you replaced one of those in your latch ?
Now that I know the configuration I am looking for the last bit of info I need to find an equivalent is to have the dimensions...probably best in mm. Can you do that for me ?
Thanks

Is it just the metal spring that breaks on the micro sensor or something internal. Just wondering if the metal spring can be harvested from a similar sensor and installed onto the old...but if it something internal, then thats another issue.

I rebuilt a micro switch for the front right soft close on my D3 W12 once. It was a big pain to get the switch out. I can’t remember exactly what I did but I remember it was easy to do once it was in my hand. I think the spring was long gone and I either used a similar spring that was close enough to size or I fabbed something. It was reliable after that

I have a full set of soft close latch in my hoard of a8 parts. I will check asap. Perhaps I'll make a youtube video so you'll have something to guide you. I've replaced one before, and bought it on digikey so they are not obscure parts. I'll come back here later
