Default I need some quick help...S8 or Range Rover SC?

I am suppose to be picking up a RRSC on Tuesday or Wed. Just drove the S8 and was floored at how civil it is for a performance automobile. I love the quality of the Audi's, we own a 2007 S-line A6 4.2 and a 2005.5 A4 avant 2.0 thats tricked out. I can hear it now, why change. I am getting out of a Cayenne Turbo and am a little used to an SUV. The Q7 is lacking the performance that I like. Any reliability issues with the V-10? How will this be in the snow...deep snow with snow tires? Any quick help would be much appreciated!!!!?

Default If you need an SUV to fill a gap in your line up, then swapping an RRSC for an S8 is going to

leave that gap, although the S8 is a fantastic car, and I can see why you'd want one.

The Q7 really needs the 4.2 V8 diesel engine, at least until the talked-about-but-not-timelined V12 diesel comes along, and those diesel engines need certifying for the US. They will be just what the Q7 needs; lots of torque without denting driving range to unusable levels.

I've heard talk of putting the 5.2 litre V10 into the Q7, but to be honest I don't thikn it's the right engine for the car. It works better than I had dared hope for in the S8, but on a 5500+ lb brute like the Q7, I don't think high revs and moderate torque are right (the W12 would make a better choice IMHO).

So, RRSC or S8? Well, as I said in the title, if you can live without an SUV, the S8 is a great car. With snow tyres it should work out fine for a few inches of snow, but beyond that you do hit the limits of ground clearance, and the very flat undertray does mean it pushes snow down underneath the font end and 'sledges' up onto it, lifting the front wheels and reducing grip. I've driven (carefully!) a W12 on summer tyres in about 2 inches of snow, with the suspension in 'lift' mode, and it was drivable, if slightly twitchy over ice ruts, and rather slow to respond to steering inputs.

I appreciate your timely response. I think you are right about the Q7, a BIG deisel would make it an absoulte tank and help jump off the line a little better. I will be picking up the RRSC in a few hours. That will get me through the masses of snow that we receive with far greater ease!

Default Re: I need some quick help...S8 or Range Rover SC?

I have both, two TOTALLY different experiences...The RRSC is imho much better looking vehicle then CTT, but, doesnt handle as well nor as fast. Its a bit cheaper. RRSC has much richer interior feel than CCT. But, tho SC no lag, not as good an engine as Porsche.
S8 is a supersedan, but, smaller than A8L I had before, i.e. tighter with kids behind me. but, no comparison in handling and performance.
RRSC is luxo cruiser SUV, S8 is a sports sedan. V10 has held up well so far in Gallardo's....time will tell in the S8. Tires are pretty slick, but, getting set of winter weels and tires should be fine
Hope this feedback helps
