Default LED License Plate Bulbs DYI

OK, so I have been very good for all of a week-and-a-half of ownership, till today, for my first mod: LED license plate bulbs. Notice the yellowish color of the OEM bulbs on the first picture. It takes all of 10 minutes and looks great! Bulbs purchased on eBay, any error-free bulb will do, these came from China. Next: puddle lights and headlamp running lamps. I will not rest until the car is all LED or HID!!!! Enjoy!

This is how the original bulbs look like (yellowish)

This is the LED bulb I purchased

This is the bulb housing removed, it comes out by removing the one screw:

Side by side comparison of the LED and incandescent bulb:

All done, looks great!

Cheers!

Nah, these are way too small to require any type of heat disipation.

They do act to polarity though, as I found out when I placed them back on the trunk, they only light up if they are set the right way, and I had to flip them around to make them work.

Cheers

I'd stick with the ECS, you do need them to dissipate heat the LED's run cooler but the chip is what gets warmer an enclosed in that little compartment they will get hot..
I have the ECS brand, had an issue with one of them after 2 months called ECS an they replaced them free of charge..
Try that with one from Japan.

Thank you for the endorsement. Those little LED's do get quite hot. I'm not certain if it is the light bulb's heat, amperage through the bulb, or both factors combined with being crammed into a small housing - but I would say a heat sink is a good idea. The OP's lights look nice nice though! Let us hope he has no issues.

tashakes it really would be nice if you included a link to the bulbs you bought. I am really interested in doing this as well, but no offense to ECS but $50 for two led bulbs is much too high.

Default LED Lamp

Hey Guys,

what is your opinion about this led light?

http://www.dectane.de/product_info.p...-a8--uva-.html

Can it cause problems, or heating problems?
