Let's play find the engine Code
Audi Jeopardy: 2007 A8 4.2 The service book is missing. The option sticker in the trunk is missing. There is a green sticker on the left rear timing cover that is totally blank. How do you find the engine code?
My answer was to use the manual. It says it's stamped on the LHS where the engine joins the gearbox and it shows the spot in a diagram. However, the diagram doesn't look like my engine and anyway, good luck finding anything back there under a dozen pipes and widgets. Next I took the part number stamped on the rear timing cover and found that it was applicable for only BVJ engines. Then I took the part number stamped on the cylinder head and that too was for BVJ engines. Unless anyone has a better answer, that's gonna be my final answer!
(How hard could it be to just stamp in somewhere you could actually see it? "What?" you say "and make it easy?" Oh, I forgot. This is an Audi.
(I have a great location for it. How about on the inside of the pinch bolt shaft?
