Default Level Control

I've tried it several times as described here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/levelcontrol.html and it never worked quite well. My car is lowered but not perfectly leveled. Left side is a few millimeters higher. When I go again through Adaptation it won't except measured values on the right side which I find ridiculous. If it knows right value why should I measure it and if I measure it how can it say Invalid Value. Can anybody explain this procedure little bit better?

It has been a while since I did this so I went looking for others who have done it and found this. It is the same method that I used and you do have to measue each wheel during Adaptation. Here you go and good luck. Laters,

So I first parked the car in the garage on level ground. Turned the ignition on and inserted the Vag cable into the obd2 scan port under the driver's left side knee cover area. I made sure to connect the cable to the car first, then snake the cable out of the driver's side window where my laptop was. I then connected the cable to the laptop.

Started up Ross-Tech's Vag Com software, selected the select control module buton. Then I clicked on the chassis tab at the top row of tabs. In this menu, I selected controller 34 - Level Control. The stock code read like this: (Basic Setting)

0015510

the only numbers that matter are the two fives. Each integral drop in number corresponds to a 5mm drop. For example, I wanted a 20mm front and 15mm rear drop so I entered:

0011210

After entering and saving I closed the Vag com - removed the vag cable and turned off ignition. I restarted the car (engine turned on) and reconnected the cable to the port.

I then went back to controller 54 - level control. Over on the right side of buttons on the Vag-Com panel, there's a button called security access - which I clicked. I then entered the number 31564. Important: Once you enter this, you need to complete the adaptation from beginning to end or else the car will not adapt to your new settings and it will go into a limp mode for the suspension.

After entering the security code, I went to teh adaptation button. There are five channels:

01 Front Driver
02 Front Passenger
03 Rear Driver
04 Rear Passenger
05 Save

First select 01. Press return. The car will then lower and raise its suspension. After its complete and the vag-com status windows says okay to enter - go to the test value window on the left side of the test button. Measure the center axle to the bottom of the fender lip - make sure to measure in millimeters. Enter this value in the test value window and press enter. Then click on save. Do this same thing for channels 02, 03, and 04. When you are done, go to channel 05 and enter 1. This saves the adaptation. Exit out of the Vag-Com.

Now get into the car and then drive back 15-20 feet and drive forward back to teh same spot you were before. Repeat the adaptation and you should notice that the values in the read section should be fairly close to what you measure. If not, continue to adapt until its right.

I have to measure again, but my car went down about 20mm in the front and 15mm in the back like I wanted to... but I'm still adapting. I'll do it again tomorrow to make sure its right.

Thank you for your answer. That's exactly what I did. Problem is when I measure front right I get 392mm and it says INVALID. If it is person I would hit him on a head and make him to go and measure it himself. It excepts 388mm but that's not what I measured. No wonder it's not levelled when done. In the process my compressor is working big overtime pumping it up again and again. I just wonder what bright mind programmed it so that it has to be started all over again when it doesn't accept a measured value. Must be that famous German software engineering. Or may be software is out of expertize.

I would start over from Factory Settings in Basic Settings (0015510) then Exit Program and remove Cable and turn off car for 5 seconds. I would then reconnect and go to Adaptation then do it several times until it's back to Factory. Once you have the Factory Settings then Change the Basic Setting (001??10), Exit Program, Turn Off Key, Remove Cable, Plug in Cable, Start Engine, Enter Program, Enter Level Module, Do Adaptation, Do Adaptation until you are satisfied. Sometimes it take several tries to get close to the number you're seeking. Laters,

Well, I did most of that too. Except for unplugging cable. I can understand that it takes a few times to get exact numbers (or close), but what numbers am I supposed to use in those several tries when it doesn't accept real ones?

You have to wait overnight to make any more than 2 or 3 changes. For some reason, the car will only accept 2 or 3 changes in a row, anything more than that will be ignored, thus frustrating the operator.

Leave it be for now. First thing tomorrow, reset to factory settings. Then try it once or twice and that's it. You only get a few chances at a time, so make sure you get it done right from the gitgo.

Cheers.

Edward

Thanks Edward. I did it with fake numbers (ones it accepted as VALID, whatever that means). I need the car and I hate it in a limp mode. I wouldn't say that there is a limit on number of attempts. It acts same as many times as I tried. Just not accepting real numbers.
