MMI Screen Gear Tooth Broken - Can you get this part separately?
So, this evening my MMI screen started to grind, pop and not close or open fully - unless assisted by my hand.
Ended up taking the whole dash apart and the MMI Screen unit.
There is a little white 15-tooth gear that has one of the teeth snapped off that is causing it.
Is this little gear available separately. Has anyone done a repair like this before?

I doubt audi would sell that part individually....
You may need to sniff through some sort of parts catalog to find it.
Check with audi if they tell you whole new unit, I would try to get some exact measurements of the gear and see if the guys in the link can help.
Maybe if you can replace all the gears with metal ones this will never happen again.

https://sdp-si.com/eStore/</a

If replacing with OEM, you'd have to replace the entire mounting for the MMI screen...
...Looking over the ETKA, the bracket that holds the MMI screen is not something that is broken down into separate parts. I assume that bracket would have the gear wheels, but you should confirm this.
Part number: 4E0-857-273-D
Retail: approx $350
Online: approx $300 (AudiPartsDepot at Riverside)
Dicount: approx $250 (same as above but with AW account)
Good luck!

Re: Yes, I have done this fix and have metal replacement gears available.
Hi. I have the same problem with my screen. Where can I get the gears and is it a lot of work to change them. Thanks

Who found the gear supplier?
Hello together,
can someone tell me, where I can buy the 15-teeth white gear?
I have the same problem. My car is an Audi A8 3.0 TDI DPF year 2004.
Thanks, Eddi

I am having the same problem. It eventually got worst so I just ordered from someone on ebay. I hope it comes in by Tuesday so I can install it. If you search here, you will see you can buy the gears at some machinary shop, but I just shelled out the money for it to be shipped to me. Just search "Audi MMI gear" on ebay and you should see what I ordered. You may have to search the completed listing.

You don't want to use metal gears as replacements. Audi made them plastic for a reason. Using metal replacements is likely to cause damage either the motor gear or worse the traveler arm gears which will be nearly impossible to replace.
I have worked with a local machine shop to reproduce exact replicas of the plastic gear pairs and have them available for anyone that wants. Please contact me directly by email at jrstokka at gmail dot com.
