Default MMI update not working

Anyone point me at any good posts? I saw Louis' (Ltooz) video, thanks Louis, but I put in the cleanup disc and then the disc #2 and it says "text file not found" and "No valid disc found (sorry for the approximate descriptions here but I came in not to post this but thinking I'd find something in a search but AW search is useless). Bought them from AudipartsUSA so they are the real deal FWIW.
TIA,
Tom

One way to overcome AW search problem.

What happened with Disc 1? Does your CD changer work flawlessly? Are you stacked in update or MMI still works with old version?

Still works as before, Misha, thanks.

Strangely after I posted that I tried again to advanced-search for "MMI update" and it worked! I got 63 results IIRC in our D3 forum. none touched on this particular problem.

When I put in disc 1 I get "Reading Meta Info"..., then after about five seconds "no valid update cd found". Tried many times, even tried inverting the discs to be certain they loaded the way I thought they should. (it says "no Disc" when they go in upside-down).
Disc #2 says "Metainfo.txt not found".
I also tried loading both at once.

My cd changer works well, yes; I tried loading a CD into it to check again and it worked fine. I have unloaded all other CDs and I have the battery charger hooked up, too. Car key is off (I tried it with it on, too, no go).

I'm worried I am trying to jump too many SW updates... my current version is 01.5.0 0316; I didn't even have the clock on the bottom of the MMI screen. Anyone care to loan me their old, old SW update CDs?

4F0 998 961 is the right part number. Check it just in case. You may put it in your PC and check files. On the first CD's there is metainfo.txt and metainfo2.txt and on the second one metainfo2.txt.

Yup, those are on each, and on disc 2 there are a bunch of others, xm, dsp, other things which look kosher.

The P/N is correct on both discs.

Those are the exact discs I just used this week, went from version 1190 MMI directly to 4610 (which is what those discs are). I had no issues, sorry to hear that you are...could it be because you're working off an older MMI version? Would you have to do the intermediate step of upgrading to 3360 first, and then to 4610? I wouldn't think so but...

Also, since your vehicle is a MY 2004 did you upgrade to the (minimum) of Navigation DVD Version 5? I saw somewhere in the install instructions that was needed in order to do the MMI update.

I am not sure about updating very old version, but they don't say anything about that. There is a remote possibility that Cd's are wrong or your CD changer is not perfect. Try cleaning the lens.

I did this update about a year ago in my 05. If I remember correctly, the update disk must be in CD position 1. Sorry if this is old news.

Default That plus...if you have AMI

any slave device (iPod, MP3 player, whatever) must be unplugged from the AMI unit.

Default On very old versions there apparently can be issues...

South of 1000 is the suspect area from my historical sense. North of 0500 (the 06xx) I think I recall folks succeeding, but below that I also recall posts where people have struggled. Search over on QW too on the D3 board; I think there may be a post in the last 12 months (which I may have responded to). IIRC, look for a D3 TSB that may point to yet another patch needed to be installed. And yes, this may also be the limited case where going through another intermediate update instead (in lieu of that patch) may be a workaround.
